Privacy Policy

Friends of Elias, LLC ("we", "us") makes a care log app that helps a child's family and caregivers share what's happening in the child's day. This policy explains what information the app and this website collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
The short version: we collect as little as we can. You don't give us your name, and the app asks for a nickname for the child, not their real name. We don't sell your information, show ads or use tracking or advertising tools. Only the people a family invites into a child's circle can see that child's records.
What we collect
Your account
- An account ID. When you open the app, it creates an account identified by a random ID stored on your device. We don't ask for your name, phone number or address.
- An email address, if you add one. You can add an email so you can sign back in on a new phone. We use it only for sign-in codes and important account messages.
What your circle records
- A nickname for the child (for example, "Bean") and display settings such as time zone.
- Circle members' role labels, such as "Mom" or "Night nurse", along with each person's role and what they're allowed to see.
- Care entries and plans that members add: medications and doses, sleep, seizures, feeding and fluids, moods, notes, follow-ups and corrections, with the time, the setting and which member logged them.
- Invite codes. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of each code, never the code itself.
- An activity record of who added, changed or opened records in a circle. It helps families see who did what and protects against misuse.
The app is designed not to hold identifying details. It blocks entries that look like phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers or medical record and insurance numbers. Please don't type real names into notes either.
Technical information
Like any online service, our hosting providers receive basic technical information when your device connects, such as your IP address, device type and the time of the request, and keep it in short-lived server logs for security and troubleshooting.
How we use it
- To run the app: storing entries, syncing them to everyone in the circle and showing what's due.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don't sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
Who can see it
- People in the circle. The person who creates a child's circle decides who is invited and what each person can see. Some entries can be limited to family only.
- Service providers who run parts of the service for us and may use the information only to do so: Supabase (database and sign-in hosting), Cloudflare (website and email delivery) and Apple and Google (app distribution).
- When required by law, for example in response to a valid court order, or to protect someone's safety.
- If the company changes hands, information could move to the new owner, who would have to follow this policy.
How long we keep it
We keep a circle's records while the circle exists so caregivers can look back at its history. When you delete your account or a circle is deleted, we remove its data from our live systems within 30 days. Copies in our backups are removed as the backups expire, within a further 30 days.
Your choices
- Delete your account at any time in the app's settings. If you created a circle, you can delete it there as well.
- Leave a circle, or, if you run it, remove people from it.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it, by emailing privacy@friendsofelias.com.
Security
Information is encrypted between your device and our servers and protected by access rules that let only a circle's members reach its records. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Health information and HIPAA
The app is a tool for families. We are not a doctor, hospital or health plan, and the app isn't part of anyone's medical record, so in most cases HIPAA doesn't apply to it. We still treat your family's care information as sensitive and protect it as described here.
Children
The app is meant for adults who care for a child. It isn't meant to be used by children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
This website
friendsofelias.com uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Our website hosts receive the basic request information described above.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
